The wait is over, Mohali International Airport’s first
international flight will take off on 15th September, and the inaugural
flight is Air India Express to Sharjah.
Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister
Sukhbir Singh Badal along with his delegates which compromise of eight
ministers and nine senior officers, will be present at the airport.
The flight
will take 3.15 hours to reach its destination.The inaugural flight is a 186-seat new Boeing aircraft with
737-800 economy seat will take off at 6:15 will land at 8pm after a travel time
of 3hours and 15 minutes.
Everything has been taken care of from security to immigration.
12 immigration authorities has been set up, 6 each at arrival and departure. The
standard of security at the airport is according to the international standards
of security. A dedicated police station consisting of 20 policemen is at the
premises and is already functioning. There are 300 personnel guard which will
be increased in strength, there are well equipped commandos of Punjab police
and is also guarded by CISF.
The name of the airport is yet to be decided, though the Punjab government
has made up its mind to name the airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
